Future buyers of original PLEXIGLAS® sheets, tubes, and rods will not only acquire a product of the highest quality but also enjoy the benefit of an extended manufacturer's warranty. Evonik Industries, which produces what is probably the world's best known brand of acrylic glass, has now expanded the current light transmission guarantee to cover also non-yellowing, and has extended the guarantee period for both properties to 30 years. Another new feature is that the guarantee is valid worldwide.
This major expansion of the guarantee is based on the experience - going back more than 70 years - of Dr. Otto Röhm, the inventor of acrylic glass, with its PLEXIGLAS® products, through many years of outdoor use, constant product development, and state-of-the-art investigations and tests conducted by independent institutions. The tests, performed by, among others, the Materialprüfungsanstalt (State Materials Testing Institute) in Darmstadt, Germany, have shown that UV-resistant PLEXIGLAS® remains absolutely colorless without developing an unwanted yellow cast, even after 30 years of outdoor exposure. On the other hand, comparable competitive products made from other plastics - including those with a special UV protective layer - may yellow, cloud over to some degree, or become brown and ugly. After many years of use the material can become brittle or break, or lose its protective function. This does not happen with PLEXIGLAS®.
The resistance to yellowing is due to the naturally UV-stable technology that protects PLEXIGLAS® through and through and gives it high UV resistance. Even in regions of very high UV exposure, therefore, PLEXIGLAS® undergoes only minimal yellowing, invisible to the naked eye. At the same time, PLEXIGLAS® retains its light transmission to a very high degree under all climatic conditions.
Long-term observations have shown that, depending on product type and region, up to 90 percent of incident light is transmitted through PLEXIGLAS® glazing, even after 30 years of outdoor exposure. This means that PLEXIGLAS® is significantly more transparent to light than glass.
Other plastics such as polycarbonate (PC), polystyrene (PS), and PVC, whose light transmission may be severely inhibited after long weathering, often cannot compare with PLEXIGLAS® in this regard.
Additional comprehensive guarantees for the flame-retardant properties (30 years), hail resistance (10 years), and color (10 years) of PLEXIGLAS® will shortly be announced in detail on the website, www.plexiglas.de. Here, with a few mouse clicks, you can selectively view guarantees for the product of your choice, and combine these into an overall product-specific guarantee.
